What Orbit knows about you

Orbit is a location-sharing app, so it necessarily handles sensitive data. This page says exactly what that is, so you can decide whether to trust us with it.

What is collected

• Your account: an email address, a display name, and a hashed password. The password itself is never stored.
• Your circles: which circles you belong to, your role in each, and whether you are currently sharing with them.
• Your position: latitude, longitude, accuracy, and battery level, with the time your device recorded them.
• Your devices: a name, the platform, and a push notification token so alerts can reach you.

What is not collected

• No driving behaviour, speed scores, or phone-usage monitoring.
• No contacts, photos, microphone, or browsing history.
• No advertising, analytics, or attribution SDKs in the apps.
• No fingerprinting or tracking on this website.

How long it is kept

Location history is kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically. Your latest position is cached for up to 24 hours so the map loads instantly, and is dropped as soon as you pause sharing. Deleting your account removes everything.

Who can see it

Only the members of the circles you have joined, and only while you are sharing with them. Pausing a circle hides your position and your history from it immediately, and the other members can see that you have paused rather than being shown a stale location.

Payments

Subscriptions are handled by Stripe. Orbit never sees or stores your card details — it holds only a Stripe customer reference and your current subscription status.

The commitments

• No data selling: Orbit has no advertising business and no data partners. Your location is not a product, and there is no arrangement under which it could become one.
• No third-party tracking SDKs: The apps ship no analytics, attribution, or advertising SDKs. Nothing in Orbit reports your behaviour to a company you have never heard of.
• Minimal data collection: An email address, a display name, your circles, and recent positions. Location history is kept for 90 days and then deleted.
• Clear controls: Pause sharing for any circle with one switch, and others can see that you have. Nothing is hidden behind a setting that only appears to work.
